A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and committed Utilities Manager to work for leading North American Defence Contracting company within their operations on Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan.
This job based inside the camp, the entire role is based within the wire. Life on Kandahar is not as austere as one may think; there are over 25,000 people on the base. The base itself is more like a small town and boasts various dining facilities, gyms, a nightclub, Burger King, Pizza hut, Starbucks, a hockey Rink, wireless internet and libraries etc.
The successful Utilities Manager will be responsible for overseeing utility services (water production and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, solid waste management, and vehicle wash rack).
Additional responsibilities will include:
· Demonstrating active leadership through participation in all aspects of quality management for utility services (water production and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, solid waste management, and vehicle wash rack) on KAF,
· Preparation of operational reports for Project Management,
· Supporting the implementation of documented process within the company
· Participating in reviews and walkthroughs when required
· Approving processes developed by teams
· Serves as client’s subject matter expert for utilities issues in meetings requested by the Base Engineers, NAMSA, or Project Management.
Essential Requirements:
· Tertiary qualification or equivalent,
· Minimum of five years of water treatment experience including two years of working in a remote environment,
· One year of managerial and/or supervisory experience,
· Water Duties Course (equivalent of qualifications required by O Reg. 128/04 (Water Distribution Operators Course),
· Fluent in spoken and written English, and
· Valid Driving License.
· Have at least five of the desirable requirements.
Desired Requirements:
· Advanced Water Treatment course
· HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) or equivalent
· Completion of correspondence courses such as: Operator Math, Operator Chemistry and Water Quality Control
· Competent in Fire fighting Practices
· Completed Disaster recovery training
· Working knowledge of Evacuation procedures
· Emergency Response Procedures
· Emergency Communications
· Security awareness
· First Aid & CPR
· Vehicle operation
· Transportation of dangerous goods
· Hazardous waste handling, storage management and shipping
· WHMIS
· Environmental awareness
· Safe lifting practices
· Confined spaces
· Information management system
· Chlorination (Gas Chlorine Systems)
· Distribution System Maintenance
· Cross Connection Control Awareness
· Preventive Maintenance
· ROWPU operation
· Pump operation
· Well water treatment
· Laboratory testing
· Pollution control.
Certifications Required:
· Class 2 Water Treatment or equivalent
· Water Quality Analyst or equivalent
Equipment experience:
· Operation of water centrifugal pumps
· Laboratory equipment such as colorimeters and test probes.
· Standard office equipment including computer with Microsoft Office software suite

92,000 USD per annum - TAX FREE
Rotation of 3 months in and 1 month out
