Senior Engineer - Kandahar Air Field (KAF), Afghanistan - TAX FREE
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and committed Senior Engineer to work for a leading North American Defence Contracting company within their operations on the NATO military base, Kandahar Air Field (KAF) in Afghanistan.
Life on Kandahar is not as austere as one may think; there are over 25,000 people on the base. The base itself is more like a small town and boasts various dining facilities, gyms, a nightclub, Burger King, Pizza hut, Starbucks, a hockey Rink, wireless internet and libraries etc. This job based inside the camp, the entire role is based within the wire.
The successful Senior Engineer will be responsible for the Engineering Design Section on the base. The Design Section currently consists of a Civil Designer, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Building Inspector, Surveyor and CAD operator.
The Engineering Design section is responsible for:
o Project Implementation Recommendations
Recommendations with respect to the most suitable method of project implementation will be developed.
o Project management & contract supervision
The Senior Engineer will provide project management and contract supervision for minor construction and renovation projects. This includes making recommendations for the most suitable methods of project implementation, assistance in supervision and inspection of work by contract and/or provision of project management.
o Technical advice & meetings
The Senior Engineer and technologists will provide technical advice as applicable to the limit of their expertise, including attending meetings and producing written records of discussions and decisions.
o As-Built Drawings
Up-to-date as-built records following new work and renovations are essential for safe and efficient on-going maintenance activities. Updated site record drawings will be maintained in the Technical Library drawing database, and hardcopy red-lined drawings will be retained with the project file/work order.
o Drafting & Drawing reproduction services
o Permanent Base Map updates
Updates including the latest new-constructions including NATO and all other buildings from different Nations and contractors.
As the Senior Engineer on site your responsibilities will also include:
o The engineering design capability will be overseen by the Senior Engineer (Civil) responsible for setting work priorities, assigning tasks, monitoring work progress and engineering product quality control.
o The Senior Engineer is responsible for feasibility studies to advice the Base Engineer (NATO) and support the decision making process concerning project implementation methods.
o The Senior Engineer is responsible for primarily design work of major construction projects up to a 30% grade, including cost estimations.
o The Senior Engineer is responsible for the project management of minor new construction works and renovation projects, contracted by NATO.
o The Senior Engineer will be a professional engineer with at least 10 years of experience in managing an engineering and project supervision organization.
Professional requirements
o Professional Engineer (certification/degree required) with 10+ years experience
o 5 years experience in a similar role, managing a team of engineers
o Military construction experience desirable, but not essential.
o Broad understanding of construction processes and disciplines
o Ability to priorities multiple projects
o Excellent communication skills, both written and oral in English language
o Excellent computer skills in the Microsoft Office (word, excel, power point)
o Knowledge of Auto Cad (desirable)
o Knowledge of surveying techniques (Total Station) (desirable)
Package:
97,750 USD per annum, at the current exchange rate this equates to 64,000 GBP – TAX FREE
Rotation is 3 months in country and 1 month out, this is 3 months paid leave a year
Accommodation, food, laundry, flights etc are all provided.
